Rep. Alice Hausman has been chosen to receive the 2016 Legislator of the Year Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Minnesota.

This award recognizes a legislator at the state or national level who has been a leader and outspoken advocate for people with mental illness and their families. Rep. Hausman has consistently advocated for affordable and supportive housing, which NAMI Minnesota believes is a key step on the road to recovery.

The award will be presented on November 5.

Rep. Alice Hausman has received the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) 2014 Legislator of the Year award.

NAHRO selected Rep. Hausman for the award for her leadership during the 2014 Legislative Session as chief author of the Bonds for Affordable Housing bill authorizing $20 million in state general obligation bonds for rehabilitation and preservation of public housing. In addition, the bill provides $80 million in Housing Infrastructure Bonds to finance the preservation of affordable housing and address foreclosure.

“I’m humbled and honored to receive this award,” said Rep. Hausman. “Affordable housing is a vital link to create stable neighborhoods and I believe the investment the legislature made this year is a big step in the right direction.”

NAHRO also said Representative Hausman’s efforts will strengthen Minnesota communities across the state by investing in affordable housing.
